SUPPORTING LITERACY
The root of the Woman's Club is as a literary society. The "Founding Mothers" of the Woman's Club of Red Bank purchased and maintained the club house as a place where they could teach people how to read.
Today the Woman's Club of Red Bank invites individuals (men are welcome too) and businesses to get involved any way they can by volunteering time or goods, donations or sponsorship to support our education and literacy projects.
RECKLESS ESTATE ~ HISTORIC HOUSE PRESERVATION
In 1874 Anthony Reckless constructed the house. It is one of Red Bank's finest examples of a suburban residence in the Italianate stele and a long-standing center of local civic importance. It was built in 1874 for one of the town's founding fathers and leading citizens, State Senator Anthony B. Reckless. The house is the sole surviving structure associated with the Senator.
The Woman's Club of Red Bank purchased the house in 1921. Since then it has served as a headquarters for the civic -minded organization.
In 1982 the Reckless Estate was listed on the New Jersey Register of Historic Places. Preserving this charming building is a key capital goal of the organization. From 2000 to date, a Preservation Plan has been developed and is underway. For more information on the work to be done, click on the Reckless Estate page.
NETWORKING ~ SOCIALIZING
This third part of the mission statement identifies networking as a key to the organization. We have found that when people and businesses get involved in the community and socialize while networking, we all can help each other!
Club membership and sponsorship opens the door to many exciting opportunities for both you and your business.
