Reckless Women
The club house is the State Senator Anthony B. Reckless Estate. Female members are often called Reckless Women because of our enthusiasm in our programs and all the fun we have accomplishing our goals. Check our Calendar of Events for events and our Jazz & Blues concert series the Reckless Steamy Nights with our partner, the Jersey Shore Jazz & Blues Foundation.
Then & Now
Then ... The women who founded our club overcame many obstacles. They did not have the right to vote. They had little, if any, control over their own property, earnings or bodies. They were not allowed to serve on a jury. They were not permitted to run companies, achieve higher education degrees, or even protect themselves from domestic violence. Yet they were able to purchase and maintain our club house as a place where they could teach people how to read.
Now ... The Woman's Club of Red Bank has evolved as the needs of our community have changed. Today there are still many who can not read and our literacy programs are still a tremendous value with scholarship programs for girls in the Red Bank area.
As time goes on our beautiful Reckless Estate is in constant need of repair. The Club House Preservation Plan Committee focus on raising capital for the club house maintenance and repair.
The members of the Woman's Club of Red Bank still foster community spirit through involvement and partnerships.
